Born in 1947 in Denmark and educated as a Graphic Designer, studied at The Graphic School, Copenhagen and courses at the Academy of Art, Aarhus. Since my graduation I have been working with painting and graphic design, commercially and as academy teacher, and in 1999 I established my studio in Fuengirola, Spain.

About my paintings

"Riis, it seems, is often content to prove he can do something brilliantly and then quickly moves on.
He is the author of pictures so different from one another that at first glance they seem to be by different hands. He has defined a vast pictorial and conceptual territory for himself, varying from almost realistic figuration to total abstraction, but always with a recognisable inspiration by the Andalusian soul.
A sense of "eternity" in his landscapes render them abstract, even though we "know" we are staring at a meticulous reproduction of the nature. He heightens the tension between the supposed truth contained in these image - we see it, we know it, therefore it must be so - and the unreliability of those assumptions"
